Resolution implementation tops Party conference agenda
(VOV) - The Party Central Committee convened its 9th conference in Hanoi on January 5 to review the implementation of its resolutions adopted at the 10th national Party Congress in 2006, other resolutions for combating corruption and waste, as well as the cadre strategy.
Addressing the conference, Party General Secretary Nong Duc Manh acknowledged the country’s significant achievements in the past nearly 3 years in the context of domestic and global fluctuations.
He said that in the review period, the entire Party, people and army have united to seize opportunities, overcome challenges and achieve positive results. Progress has been made in building Party organisations and enhancing the leadership and combative capacity of these organisations.
He noted that the great national unity bloc has been strengthened while the renewal process has been boosted in all fields. The country has maintained socio-political stability, achieved a high GDP growth rate, stabilised the macro economy and ensured social security.
He went on to say that the country has maintained national sovereignty and territorial integrity while national defence and security has been boosted. Increased foreign affairs and deeper international economic integration have helped elevate the country’s position around the globe.
He also pointed out difficulties facing the country, including weaknesses of the national economy, acts of sabotage by hostile forces, bureaucracy, corruption and waste along with the lax management of several Party organisations.
He asked delegates to make an in-depth analysis of the country’s situation, identify the root causes of these weaknesses to draw lessons and put forth solutions for successfully implementing the resolutions until 2010.
According to the Party leader, it is time to study and find out solutions to practical issues, such as the relationships between growth rate and growth quality; rapid growth and sustainable development; the economic growth and social security and equality; economic and political reform; renewal and stability; independence, self-reliance and international economic integration; the fight against corruption and waste; and the building of a contingent of cadres to meet the country’s requirements for national industrialisation and modernisation.
He said issues to be discussed at the conference will help increase the Party’s leadership capacity in all fields, particularly its ability to enforce the laws in order to promote the revolutionary cause.
The conference will last through to January 14.
